Workshop Report
As the European Accessibility Act (EAA) comes into effect in June 2025, this workshop discussed what the EAA might mean for UK institutions with ties to the EU. This is timely as UK higher education institutions (HEIs) and vendors asked for more clarity on the scope and reach of the EAA, especially for those with EU campuses, or those who offer distant learning, and/or educational tools such as e-books and e-journals.
The workshop was part of the Accessible Digital Futures project, a collaboration between Jisc and the Glenlead Centre, which brought together about forty stakeholders from industry, government, and the higher education sector.
This report highlights how EAA compliance may strengthen HEI and vendor offerings. Outstanding sector questions are examined, particularly on enforcement, oversight and support. Next steps and priorities are identified for HEI stakeholders, and industry partners.
